Started using the 40 degree cycle of the washing machine instead of 60 a few months ago having seen it mentioned on TV and have found no difference in the cleanliness of the washing.

Also, I use detergent tabs, which come in packs of 2 within the box. I have also started using just one tab per wash, with the rare exceptions when my son's football gear is really filthy, and have found that the wash is just as effective.
